The hits just keep coming for Florida Gov Ron DeSantis, as the newly-minted governor is now committing to develop or create a prescription drug program in the state that affords Floridians the opportunity to buy cheaper, FDA-approved prescription drugs from Canada.

Cheaper drugs from Canada, eh?

That’s the plan.

“One of the biggest drivers of this country’s out of control healthcare spending is the cost of prescription drugs,” said Governor DeSantis. “While our prices remain high, our neighbors in Canada are spending significantly less for the same drugs. These price disparities are indefensible and inexcusable and I am ready to act.”

According to DeSantis’ press shop, which cites the 2003 Medicare Modernization Act as being the catalyst for the governor’s prescription drug play,   DeSantis will look to work with the Trump Administration and the Florida Legislature “to create” a program that will offer cheaper drugs

But now that Florida’s is actively pushing for prescription drug reform, will other states follow suit?

There are only a handful of states, including Florida, who are leaning to import Canadian prescription drugs, so it doesn’t look all that promising that the 40 or so remaining states will follow Florida’s lead.

A meeting Texas between between the Pharmacists’ Association and its Texan counterpart, have launched a campaign against importing Canadian drugs into the U.S.

"Raiding Canada's medicine chest will not solve the problem here in the United States," said Marc Kealey, CEO of the Ontario (Canada) Pharmacists' Association as he joined with Texas pharmacy industry officials today to announce a consumer awareness campaign regarding the dangers of prescription drug importation.”-Kera News

In the end, importing cheaper drugs from Canada can only hurt Big Pharma in the U.S.
