The Department of Housing and Urban Development announced that it would be providing $652 million to the state of Texas for Hurricane Harvey recovery funds. The announcement was made today during a joint press conference call between HUD Secretary Ben Carson and Texas Governor Greg Abbott.
Also discussed in the meeting was the progress that has been made in Texas since Harvey rebuilding efforts began.
Governor Abbott commented that “With a disaster the size and scope of Hurricane Harvey, collaboration between state, local, and federal government is critical.”
Abbott also thanked Secretary Carson “for his leadership and officials at HUD who have worked closely with the state of Texas for their tremendous partnership throughout the recovery process. Working together, we will continue to rebuild our communities and ensure the Lone Star State is more resilient than ever before.”
With today’s announcement, three allocations of funding from HUD to Hurricane Harvey recovery efforts have been made, and it is meant to provide further restoration resources that will go to restore homes, businesses, and infrastructure impacted by Harvey. In addition, these funds are allocated from the Community Development Block Grant for Disaster Recovery program, and it will further supplement $5 that has been approved in recovery programs by HUD in June of last year.
