Even though some veteran Democratic members of the U.S. Congress will disagree, freshman Congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (R) is the new face of their political party.
While the “AOC” brings a loud new voice, image, and ideology to Washington, D.C., her apparent lack of knowledge on some issues, as well as her off-the-cuff style of speaking, has landed her in a bit of hot water.
Well, maybe hot water is a little bit of a stretch, but recent gaffes seem to have pressed her to tone it down a bit.
Why do I say that?
Well, in the past couple of days, Ocasio-Cortez has been seen running or walking almost to a jog past reporters around the House chamber. Congress’ new speed demon is also blazing her way throughout the rest of the Capitol and congressional office buildings.
When she does address questions, it’s on the run and her answers are nothing more than quick sound bytes.
Ocasio-Cortez’s newly-found quickness could be attributed to Sander’s similar way of dodging reporters.
Just today, shortly after he walked down the escalators that lead to the Senate train system, which are located under the Capitol, Sanders did a full spring past reporters.
This is only the second time we’ve seen Sanders pull a Carl Lewis on the media. Usually Sanders just ignores reporters as if he was swatting at flies.
Hill reporters are used to this. Most just ignore him all together.
But Ocasio-Cortez and Sanders are not alone. Many others, including Senator Mike Lee (R) are usually talking to a staffer or have their phones glued to their ears as they walk or double time past the press corps.
It’s a sight to see.
