Progressive Democratic Congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez is at the center of a Federal Elections Commission (FEC) investigation into whether she and her campaign manager, Saikat Chakrabarti, violated election laws by allegedly funneling $1 million in donations to private companies from political action committees.
These PAC’s and private companies in question are all controlled by Chakrabarti.
When Reporters caught up with Ocasio-Cortez upon her arrival at Washington’s Reagan International Airport and asked her about the allegations, Ocasio-Cortez responded by stating,” there is no violation,” and added,” I’m 100% people funded me.”
According to Ocasio-Cortez’s campaign finance reporting, “total individual contributions” netted $2,041,236.26, which includes $2700 from billionaire Tom Steyer.
But another $75,427.63 came from groups or committees, calling into question her assertion that her congressional campaign was solely funded by “people” or individuals.
Technically, many of these groups consists of labor unions, so it can be said that “people” who donated to their respective union Pac, donated to Ocasio-Cortez.
Other groups who donated to “AOC” were Moveon.org and SEIU.
