Rep. Eric Swalwell (D), who is running on an gun violence platform and recently tangled with NRA Spokeswoman Dana Loesch over what she alleges is his dodging of “gun confiscation and jail policy” questions, is trying to kick start his presidential campaign by following his primary opponent’s lead of going after President Trump.
Rep. Swalwell is feverishly trying to raise money off the Mueller report, calling Trump the “double digit obstructer” and saying that if he were president, he would “instruct the Attorney General to end the policy that a sitting president cannot be indicted.”
“Trump is going to be removed from office. It could be by Congress. But it may be by you. I have FULL faith in you,” said Swalwell in a fundraising message.
Swalwell, who sits on the House Judiciary Committee and believes that Americans need to know how Mueller came to his conclusion, says he’s committed to calling in AG Barr and Robert Mueller to testify.
He talks about full transparency, but during a recent appearance on MSNBC, Swalwell stated that the complete and unredacted report need to be released, but only if it didn’t “affect anything ongoing,” failing to include the other reasons Attorney General Barr gave for the redactions.
According to the Department of Justice, there were four reasons for redactions in the Mueller report.
Swalwell mentioned “anything (investigations) ongoing,” but not the fact that personal information of individuals named in the report would be compromised, as well as the secret grand jury findings that protect victims and witnesses.
“We paid for this report. We should see all of it, including what’s redacted, as long as it doesn’t affect anything ongoing,” said Swalwell.
