If the border migrant crisis couldn’t get any worse, the U.S. Customs and Border Protection agency (CBP) is reporting that paid radio ads offering migrants help and assistance to travel to the U.S., are airing all over Central America.
One border patrol agent told Fox News Host Maria Bartiromo that “the word is definitely out” throughout Central American countries about immigrating to the U.S.
The ads, which are said to be paid for by human traffickers that stand to make between $3,000 and $9,000 per migrant, are working.
“The whole word knows, they put it in the news. They tell us everywhere if you come to the United States, they’ll help you,” a Honduran woman told agents when she was apprehended near the Rio Grande Valley.
“The word is definitely out. They have advertisements by radio. You listen to your radio on your way to work — on your way to the grocery store. And that country is advertising, ‘If you want the American dream, we’ll help you out — we’ll teach you how to get it in the United States,’” said the unidentified border patrol agent.
According to CBP, there have been 2,700 migrants detained who have falsely claimed that they were part of a family unit over the past six months.
President Trump recently stated at a rally in Wisconsin that the influx of migrants arriving at the southern border was causing a “huge strain” on America, not to mention law enforcement.
Trump also said that it was his “sick idea” to send detained migrants to “sanctuary cities’ around the nation.
Meanwhile, Pope Francis has sent $500,000 in aid to migrants heading to the U.S. southern border.
