Congressional Democrats have been “gunning” to pass sweeping gun control legislation after the February 14 shooting at Marjorie Stoneman Douglass high school in Florida, which left 17 students and teachers dead.

After passing several gun control bills that would expand background checks and close certain loopholes in the system, the Democratically-controlled House of Representatives are pushing for stronger, stricter gun laws that Republicans say infringe on the 2nd Amendment to the U.S. Constitution.

Now 2020 Democratic presidential candidate Cory Booker wants all gun owners to have to obtain a federal firearms license to possess a firearm.

Booker’s campaign is pressing his proposal, saying that it’s the ““most sweeping gun violence prevention plan ever put forth by a presidential candidate.”

According to Fox News, Booker's federal license plan ”current and first-time firearms buyers would seek a license at a designated office, like obtaining a passport. The applications would then be verified by the FBI. Current gun owners would have a transition period to obtain a federal license.”

Booker is no “Friend of the NRA” and has vowed to take on the NRA head-on, if he were to win the presidency in 2020.

Booker’s potential opponent, President Donald Trump, recently attended and spoke at the national NRA convention in Indianapolis, Indiana, where he stated,” “Because as the famous saying goes, when guns are outlawed, only outlaws will have guns.”
