President Trump’s threat of slapping tariffs on all Mexican imports has been a divisive topic with lawmakers from both sides saying that it’s not a good idea.
The issue is meant to push the country to act on curtailing illegal immigration.
News anchor Jorge Ramos, who’s had a history of exchanging heated words with President Trump, took to twitter to voice his disagreement with the United States’ immigration policy.
Immigration is not a problem that you can fix like an old car. We can only aspire to manage it. We are talking about human beings who tend to go to safer and richer countries. It is totally unfair to ask Mexico to do what the United States couldn’t do.

In his tweet, Ramos expressed that “immigration is not a problem that you can fix like an old car. We can only aspire to manage it.”
Ramos detailed that “we are talking about human beings who tend to go to safer and richer countries.”
So, he believes that “it is totally unfair to ask Mexico to do what the United States couldn’t do.”
Further slamming President Trump and his hard-line stance on immigration, Ramos commented that “Mexico cannot become Trump’s immigration police.”
He described that the President’s “policies at the border have been ineffective and inhumane. And now Trump wants to blame Mexico for his failures.”
Ramos also took a swipe at “the Wall,” saying that it is not going to solve the immigration crisis and that “only multi-national cooperation will.”

The threat of imposing tariffs comes from wanting to negotiate a deal with Mexico, but this week the President announced that both countries hadn’t gotten any closer to reaching an agreement and that “if no agreement is reached, Tariffs at the 5% level will begin on Monday, with monthly increase as per schedule.”

In addition, tension concerning the border has only risen considering that illegal border crossings have risen to a 13-year high.
Earlier this year, the New York Times reported that "more than 76,000 migrants crossed the border without authorization in February, an 11-year high."
