Georgia Rep. Lucy McBath (D) defeated incumbent Rep. Karen Handel in 2018 by 1%, so it was expected that Handel would challenge McBath in the 2020 presidential election, especially after it was exposed that McBath’s primary residence is in Tennessee, not Georgia.
Rep. McBath is vulnerable. Very vulnerable.
The appeal that she had during 2018, running on a gun violence platform after her son was killed by a firearm, has been overshadowed with her recent vote to impeach President Donald Trump.
Handel is raising a lot of campaign cash, and McBath is worried that her days in the U.S. House of Representatives are numbered.
According to the latest FEC reporting cycle, McBath is besting Handel by a cool $1million. Handel has raised $712k to McBath’s $1.8k.
Still, McBath could very well lose in November, regardless of how much she raises. The vote to impeach Trump is that toxic, and considering that Georgia’s sixth congressional district leans Republican, but is still a ‘Toss Up” seat, Handel’s chances of winning back her spot in the House looks promising for the “most extreme conservative.”
