Is Trump Backing Off?

After his comments about Mexican immigrants during his announcement speech, which sparked so much controversy and reaction, Donald Trump's messaging seems to be changing. His announcement speech spoke about how Mexico is sending their "rapists and drugs" and how some, "he assumes are good people", but he seems to be changing his tone.

While still "brash" some consultants must have got to him, because he seems to be trying to pivot the entire conversation to the issue of trade. In an interview with The O'Reilly Factor, Trump said:

I love Mexican people, I have tremendous relationships, I also love Mexico.

He went on to speak about how Mexican leaders are taking advantage of the USA's bad negotiating leaders on trade. Before that, he commented on stats about Central American women being raped on the border, so while he's not apologizing, and he's not backing down, he is in fact trying to pivot the conversation.

Will the media allow him to pivot without apologizing for his comments? What do you think? Let us know in the comments below.

We recently posted on the accuracy of Trump's controversial statement here.
