Officials in the Mexican city of Acapulco, one of the most dangerous cities in the world, have confirmed that Miguel Angel Jimenez Blanco, the leader of the Xaltianguis community policing group, was shot to death by organized crime, or a drug cartel, and left in the taxi cab he owned.
Jimenez was focused on bring awareness to, and looking for the 43 students that disappeared in the town of Iguala on September 26, 2014, who police suspect were kidnapped and most likely killed by organized criminals associated with the ongoing drug war.
Over the past weekend, some 14 people in the Mexican state of Guerrero, most of crimes occurred in Acapulco.
While Mexican officials continue investigating the disappearance of these students, the violence stemming from the drug war continues to spill over in the United States.
