Jeb Bush is defending the use of the term "Anchor babies," as opponents, namely Rep. Debbie Wasserman Schultz (D), anti-pro illegal immigration groups continue to call the term as offensive.

Bush is right. The term "Anchor babies" has been used since the late 1980's  by both Republicans and Democrats alike, and later used in 1996.

It wasn't until the mid 2000's that the term began to receive attention, good or bad, when the immigration reform issue  first came to the forefront.

Just a few years ago, even the American Heritage Dictionary didn't think the term was offensive, and added it into the word mix in 2011.

But shortly after people in the pro-immigration lobby began to complain that the term was disparaging, American Heritage Dictionary deemed the term "offensive."

Opponents against the use of the term will tell you that parents who come to the U.S. illegally and have a child will not get residency benefits from their child's legal status.

They are correct, but that child is entitled to receive welfare and health benefits as a U.S. citizen, and the illegal immigrant parents will obviously be the ones that will accept these entitlements on behalf of the child.

Coming to the U.S. illegally to have a child is a big business. Getting rid of the birthright citizenship measure will reduce illegal immigrants from crossing over into the U.S.
