As Speaker Nancy Pelosi and Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer continue to push back against President Trump’s ask to fund his border security wall, going “big” on border security is not an option in negotiating a security plan of action along the U.S. southern border security with Mexico.
Earlier this week, Conservative Talk Show Host Hugh Hewitt had Georgia Senator David Purdue (R) (Pictured), who told Hewitt that just about all of the immigration security measures many Republicans are looking for, will not be accomplished during the temporary reopening of the government.
Hewitt told Perdue that his colleague Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-SC) wanted to “go big” on the issue, but a skeptical Perdue rained on the hosts political parade, saying “I don’t see any way in hell we’re going to get that done in three weeks.”
“Honestly, to be a realist in this, I’ve been working for two years behind the scenes. I think the Democrats want the immigration issue more as an issue than a solution,” said Perdue.
Perdue highlighted that President Trump’s recent “legal immigration proposal” that offered 1.8 million DACA recipients a pathway to citizenship was fair and “very reasonable,” adding that that congressional Democrats “have not engaged” and have “not come forward with one proposal at all.”
