Gov. Ron DeSantis announced today that he signing an executive order that eliminates Common Core "and its vestiges" here in Florida.

Speaking at a school in Cape Coral. DeSantis recalled that on the campaign trail he “had a lot of parents that were frustrated because they didn’t understand some of the math and some of these things. Let’s just try to get this right.”

Let's get this right," said DeSantis.  We want high quality (education), we want to demand excellence, but we want to do that (reform) in a way that's responsive to the concerns we've had over the years."

DeSantis also stressed that he wants to identify ways to make civics education a priority in Florida.

"Civics education was something that I promised during the campaign....and it will pay dividends for us far into the future." - Governor Ron DeSantis

DeSantis said that all Floridians will have the opportunity to provide input to the Education Commissioner and participate in the process to reform Florida's education standards and curriculum.
