According to Florida state Representative Charles Van Zant (R) the new Common Core education standards will push to make children gay.
Van Zant made the comment during a recent anti-Common Core event in March.
“These people that will now receive $220 million from the state of Florida, unless this is stopped, will promote double-mindedness in state education, and attract every one of your children to become as homosexual as they possibly can,"-Rep. Charles Van Zant (R) (FT Union)
But Van Zant's comment is not far off from the truth. According to the American Instituted of Research, which was appointed by the Florida Department of Education Commissioner Pam Stewart, the institute is " involved in all facets of education including studies about lesbian, gay, bisexual or transgender students."
The institute spokesman adds that the "organization doesn’t promote LGBT lifestyles, but does provide information to school administrators or teachers if they ask for it."
Of course gay rights activists are calling Van Zant an "extremist" with skewed views, and are denouncing his position that the education standards will turn children gay.
The old cliche that children are like sponges, and absorb anything presented to them is true, so who is to say for sure that by reading about homosexuality in school may or may not confuse some already vulnerable and impressionable children into adopting or experimenting in homosexual practices?
It has been documented that many past rapists were themselves sexually assaulted as children, and grew up believing that those assaults to be acceptable.
I am not saying that homosexuality is wrong or right, just putting this point out there.
