Today the House passed a bill that will block funding for President Obama's illegal immigration orders. The measure passed in a 236-191 vote with 10 Republicans voting against it.
This is the first action by Republicans in a high-stakes battle over the President's executive action to defer deportations for the millions of people who entered the United States illegally.
Some of the Republican's who voted against it are: Carlos Curbelo (FL), Justin Amash (MI), Ileana Ros-Lehtinen (FL), Robert Dold (IL), Jeff Denham (CA), Mario Diaz-Balart (FL), Mike Coffman (CO), David Valadao (CA), Thomas Massie (KY).
One of the Republicans who voted for the bill is Ander Crenshaw (FL). Crenshaw is the Chairman of the House Financial Services Appropriations Subcommittee and he had the following to say about his vote:
Americans are tired of the President's 'my way or the highway approach' on illegal immigration. I stand with them - 100 percent against amnesty. That's why I voted to stop his blatant overreach by defunding his executive action on immigration in its entirety.
Crenshaw further stated:
This country must address the crisis of illegal immigration; that's clear. It places a tremendous financial pressure and social burden on our society. But, casting a blind eye toward working together with Congress and circumventing the will of the American people does not solve the problem.
The effort to defund President Obama's immigration policies was tied to a bill that would fund Homeland Security for the remainder of the Fiscal Year. Now since it was passed the House it will move to the Senate for a vote.
