Miami, FL-Hillary Clinton announced that she supported lifting the U.S. embargo against Cuba, and said that she would ask Speaker John Boehner and Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell, and the rest of the Congress, to lift the decades-long embargo.
But while Clinton outline the reasons why the "failed" embargo needed to be lifted, Clinton also made the case why it shouldn't be lifted, and reminded Americans that the Castro regime was not to be trusted.
Anyone who thinks we can trust this regime, haven't learned the lessons of this group.-HC
If they are not to be trusted, why should the U.S. trust the lives of Americans traveling to the communist island to those very same "hardliners" she argues continue committing human rights violations?
We should be under no elusion that the regime will end its repressive ways anytime soon, as its continued use of short-time detentions demonstrates.-HC

The Cuba embargo needs to go once and for all
As mentioned, Clinton does not trust the Cuban "hardliners, because these "hardliners don't want the embargo lifted."
But if the Castros (hardliners) welcome all of this new change in U.S.-Cuba relations, wouldn't their followers also side with them?
Engagement is not a gift to the Castros, its a threat to the Castros.
I would work with Congress to lift the embargo...We should help more Americans go to Cuba, if congress wont act to do this, I will use executive authority to make it easier for more Americans to visit the island.
Clinton concluded her speech by calling out Republicans as backward thinking because as she says, "many Republicans still think that Latin American is still a land of crime and coups."
