The Democratic presidential field continues to grow as Sen. Kamala Harris has now announced her intention to challenge President Donald Trump in 2020.
Harris joins Julian Castro, Sens. Kirsten Gillibrand and Elizabeth Warren (more to come), as being the early announced candidates.
But according to the latest polls on who could fair the best in a very crowded presidential primary field, Sen. Bernie Sanders, former Vice President Joe Biden, and former U.S. Senate nominee Roberto Francis “Beto” 0’Rourke.
With his political popularity with the progressive grassroots around the country appearing to have staying power, O’Rourke may be the one candidate that could possibly overcome Biden’s and Sanders popularity within the Democratic Party voting base.
How popular is “Beto?”
In driving around Austin, Texas alone, dozens and dozens of “Beto” for Senate yard signs still litter neighborhood. Many of these signs are worn out and the actual metal frames used to hold them up are already rusted out.
If the black and white signs look familiar. Whether it was by design or not, the signs look to be designed from the Black Lives Matter logo.
Aside from the yard signs, it seems as if every 7-10 cars are sporting a “Beto” bumper sticker.
The latest PPP January poll has O’Rourke defeating President Trump in a head-to-head matchup by 6 percentage points.
And as expected, a “Draft Beto for 2020” grassroots campaign has already popped up.
