Congressman Ruben Gallego (D-AZ), who is mulling over a senate run in 2020 against appointed Republican Sen. Martha McSally, has just received a big boost of support from the Latino Victory Fund and Democracy for America, who just launched the RunRubenRun.org campaign.
Gallego, a Iraq war veteran, is without question one of President Trump’s biggest detractors, and a leading voice of opposition to Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D)
“Whether at home in Arizona or serving in the Marines in Iraq, Ruben Gallego is a battle-tested patriot who has always put the interests and needs of his constituents first,” said Cristóbal J. Alex, President of Latino Victory Fund and Yvette Simpson, CEO of Democracy for America. “Arizonans deserve a leader who reflects the state’s rich diversity -- someone who understands what it’s like to grow up poor, to work hard to achieve his potential and to selflessly devote his life to his country and community. ‘Run, Ruben, Run’ will encourage Arizonans to join the movement to draft Ruben.”
Gallego is a member of the Congressional Progressive Caucus along with Sen. Bernie Sandiers (I), and Freshman Reps. Ilhan Oman, Rashida Tlaib, Veronica Escobar, Debbie Mucarsel-Powell, and Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez.
This seat is considered a toss-up, and was formerly held by Republican Jeff Flake, a co-author of the 2013 Senate immigration reform bill, commonly known as the “Senate Gang of 8” bill.
