With Democrats controlling the U.S. House of Representatives and pushing what many believe to be a very progressive and radial legislative agenda, which includes a single-payer healthcare proposal, things over in the senate chamber are a little less “colorful.”
While most Democratic senators support a single-payer, or “Medicare for All” healthcare measure, there is one hold out that refuses to tow her party’s line when it comes to healthcare reform, especially “Medicare for All.”
Freshman Senator Kyrsten Sinema (D) appears to have been drinking from the same watercooler as some of her staunchest conservative Republican colleagues.
Like Sens. Ted Cruz (R-TX), David Perdue (R-GA), Marco Rubio (R-FL) and other conservatives, Sinema continues come out swinging against Obamacare, this time introducing the Protect Medical Innovation Act, a bill that would permanently repeal the 2.3 percent tax on medical devices.
“Arizona’s manufacturers want to grow and create new jobs, but the misguided medical device tax hinders innovation,” said Sinema. “Our bipartisan bill is a commonsense solution encouraging job-growth and expanding access to life-saving technology.” (Press release)
Sinema pushed this very same law while she was a member of the U.S. House of Representatives, siding with a Republican-led chamber on changing the flawed Obamacare law.
But while she has looked to fix the broken healthcare law, by keeping the “stuffs that good” about the law, including the pre-existing conditions aspect of it, Sinema voted against repealing and replacing the Affordable Care Act.
