2020 Democratic presidential candidate Julian Castro, followed in the footsteps of his primary opponent, Robert “Beto” O’Rourke, in holding a counter rally or protest to one of President Donald Trump’s appearance in Texas.
Trump was in town to sign two energy infrastructure executive orders.
Castro’s “People First” rally focused on immigration reform, and the current border security policy that the Trump administration has been executing.

Castro didn’t disappoint his supporters, focusing on the illegal immigration border crisis brought upon by the migrant caravans that have originated from Central America, and echoed an immigration false narrative about the president that many Democrats continue push.
While answering questions in the White House about immigration reform, Trump once stated that MS-13 gang members were “animals” because of their criminal actions.
Democrats quickly pounced on Trump, saying that he called all immigrants “animals,” and failed to mention that the president was referring to MS-13.

Just a day before Castro made this remark, freshman Florida Congresswoman Debbie Mucarsel-Powell (D) referenced the “animals” narrative as well.
