Democratic presidential candidate Sen. Kamala Harris has made the bold campaign promise of raising teacher salaries to the level they “deserve.”
Sen. Harris made the promise on Twitter, where she was responding to a USA Today op-ed from a Colorado school teacher, who wrote that to make ends meet, she must occasionally sleep in her car when she rents out her apartment for extra cash.
Dana, a CO teacher, would sometimes rent her apartment and sleep in her car just to make ends meet. It's infuriating what our teachers must sacrifice just to survive. When I'm president, teachers will get the raise they deserve.
Harris is right. It is infuriating to most Americans that teacher salaries are not where they should be, but local school boards pay teachers, so there lies the problem.
The issue of teacher pay is local, state issue, not federal.
But could all that change under a President Harris administration?
Is Sen. Harris proposing signing a executive edict to raise teacher pay across the nation, or is she proposing federalizing the public school system?
HISPOLITICA reached out to the Harris for president campaign, but have not heard back, yet.
On another note, Harris jabbed back at President Trump’s recent statement that she was “probably very nasty’ to Attorney General William Barr during the latest Senate Judiciary Committee hearing.
Harris’ campaign responded by accusing Trump of being sexist.
"It seems like anytime Donald Trump feels threatened by a strong woman, he lashes out with this gross, weird attack," the message read. "It’s the kind of sexism that makes me want to run my head through a wall."
"You’d think, after three years, he could at least come up with something more original."
According to the Fox Business interview where the President made the remark, Trump did not see the Harris-Barr Judiciary hearing exchange, nor did he call her nasty. Trump said that she was “probably very nasty’ in her questioning of him.
Politics being what they are, Team Harris is fundraising off the comments, as they should be.
