Another lawmaker has joined the group of politicians calling for President Donald Trump to be impeached.
This comes after Rep. Justin Amash (I), a former GOP Rep. became, at the time, the first Republican lawmaker to join Democrats in calling for impeachment proceedings to begin against the President.
Amash has since left the GOP, and tension between him and the President has only grown.
This week, Arizona Rep. Ruben Gallego (D) gave a speech on the congressional floor, sharing that “no president in the history of our country has ever been subject to as many credible allegations of illegal conduct as Donald Trump.”
Gallego added that “given the serious nature of these crimes and the President’s refusal t cooperate with Congressional investigations, it’s time for the House of Representatives to begin an impeachment inquiry.”
The President has largely dismissed calls of impeachment from Democrats.
And, when Amash announced that he would be leaving the Republican Party, President Trump announced on twitter that it was “great news” because Amash is “one of the dumbest & most disloyal men in Congress.”

Citing the controversial Mueller Report, Gallego further expressed that it provided “compelling evidence that the President obstructed justice, including numerous attempts to shut down or influence the Mueller investigation.” However, this directly contrasts Mueller’s own admission that there were no plans to indict the President.
Still, Gallego asserts that “for the past several months, Trump, his Attorney General, and congressional Republicans have outright lied about the contents and findings of the Mueller Report.”
He argues that “launching an impeachment inquiry is a necessary step to ensure that we get to the bottom of Trump’s wrongdoing,” and many 2020 Presidential election hopefuls have also added their support for beginning the impeachment proceedings against Trump.
“Congress has the responsibility to investigate the broad range of Trump’s conduct as part of our inquiry,” states Gallego, and he intends for Congress to follow through.
