A recent New York Times essay that pointed to another “sexual misconduct” allegation made against Justice Brett Kavanaugh brought joy to the eyes of congressional Democrats hoping to eventually impeach President Donald Trump.
“Get real,” said Illinois Senator Dick Durbin (D) after being asked about the prospect of Democrats impeaching Judge Kavanaugh.
Durbin went on to express his distaste with some of his Democratic colleagues in Congress and a few other 2020 presidential candidates over wanting to impeach Kavanaugh.
“We’ve got to get beyond this ‘impeachment is the answer to every problem,” Durbin said, according to Politico. “It’s not realistic. If that’s how we are identified in Congress, as the impeachment Congress, we run the risk that people will feel we’re ignoring the issues that mean a lot to them as families.” (Fox News)
House Judiciary Committee Chairman Jerry Nadler said that his goal is to impeach President Trump goal, and will ask FBI Director Wray to look into why his law enforcement agency is said to not have investigated the allegation.
2020 Democratic presidential candidates Sens. Kamala Harris, Elizabeth Warren, and Cory Booker, Julian Castro, and Robert O’Rourke, who are all vying to win their nomination, and eventually challenge Trump, hung their hats on the NYT essay.
But then it all went wrong for them went the newspaper had to run “an editor’s note” and adjust the essay after initially excluding that the alleged accuser refused to be interviewed and that according to her friends, the accuser didn’t recall the incident.
Nadler’s committee is still pressing hard to find anything to impeach President Trump on.
