Americans are about to witness an epic Democratic senatorial primary slugfest between one of most liberal members of Congress, Rep. Joe Kennedy III, and with one of the most Socialist-minded Senators, Ed Markey.
Rep. Joe Kennedy III, the grandson of the late Robert F. Kennedy is announcing that he will primary challenge incumbent Sen. Ed Markey in the 2020 presidential election cycle.
Kennedy checks off all the true blue liberal Democratic boxes, as does Markey, but his support for Socialist measures like the “Green New Deal” has put the junior senator from Massachusetts on the same political plane as Sen. Bernie Sanders (I) and Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D).
We can say that this will be a race that will come down to ideological differences, but there isn’t much difference between the two outside of Markey sponsoring of the Green New Deal and his support of “Medicare for All.”
CBS News has announced that Kennedy will announce his senate campaign this coming Saturday.
Sen.Markey told CBS News that he would be running on these very same “socialist” issues.
“I’m going to run on all of the issues I’ve been fighting for today and into the future – climate change, income inequality, a woman’s right to choose and on gun safety legislation,” said Markey.
2020 Democratic presidential candidate Sen. Elizabeth Warren, who is running on the same Medicare for All and Green New Deal platform that self-proclaimed Socialist Democrat Bernie Sanders is running on, is back Markey.
It will be interesting to see if Rep. Ocasio-Cortez, her “ Squad,” and other like-minded congressional Democrats will support Markey over Kennedy.
One thing is for sure, we can expect President Donald Trump busy tweeting at Democrats, poking at the apparent division within their party.
