The Hispanic Caucus has launched an attack on President Trump, and Texas Rep. Joaquin Castro (D), the Chairman of the caucus is leading the charge.

In a statement, Castro informed that “across this country, Latinos are experiencing hate crimes at a rate 41% higher than 2016.” He reminded Americans that “earlier this fall, a man suffered an acid attack and just this week a young girl was almost murdered because of her ethnicity.”

In addition to this, Castro noted that “every day, Latinos face overt and subtle racism and discrimination in their daily lives.”

All of this he attributes as “not a coincidence that these trends coincide with the election and presidency of Donald Trump,” who he says, “built his political career demonizing Latinos as criminals or invaders.”

However, Castro says that the oppression against Latinos isn’t just seen domestically.

The Hispanic Caucus twitter account shared a New York Times article titled “’I’m Kidnapped’: A Father’s Nightmare on the Border,” expressing that “Children are having to watch their mothers get raped & fathers beaten nearly to death.”

They argue that “these families have a right to seek asylum” and “instead Trump is delivering them into the hands of criminals & cartels.” But, as has been spoken of for the better part of the Trump administration, cartels are notorious for smuggling people in for various oppressive reasons.

Castro, whose brother Julian is currently running for the Presidency, commented that “the situation is dire” because “many Latinos feel that they have a target on their back.”

President Trump has maintained his hardline stance on immigration, and it has often been an important talking point in the Democratic debates.
