Former Secretary of House and Urban Development and former Mayor of San Antonio, Texas, Julian Castro (D), has been highlighting his “People First” platform on the campaign trail.

In emphasizing police reform and immigration reform as being integral parts of his platform, a new poll conducted by Univision shows that he has received the highest favorability ratio of any other Democratic primary candidate.

Castro is also listed as being in the top three voter choice among latinos.

In response to the poll, Maya Rupert, Castro’s campaign manager, commented that “this poll highlights an important trend in our campaign: as more voters hear about Secretary Castro’s candidacy, the more support he gets in comparison to his opponents.”

Rupert added that “latinos are poised to be the second largest voting bloc amongst Democratic voters in 2020, and, to beat Donald Trump, Democrats must reach out and speak to the Latino community more than ever.”

She asserted that the “poll highlights that Secretary Castro is doing just that on this campaign.”

In a recent Town Hall event that was held in Tempe, Arizona, Castro commented on his “People First Policing Plan.”

When speaking to the crowd, he questioned “how many videos of police misconduct do we have to watch before we realize this isn’t a case of a few bad apples?”

Castro warned that “the system is broken – but I’ve put forward a plan to mend the relationship between the police departments and the communities they serve.”

Though President Trump has not aimed any attacks on the former HUD Secretary, Castro will take part in the first night of a two-night event where the Democratic primary candidates will take the stage and try to stand out from the rest.

On June 26th, Castro will surely comment on healthcare, immigration and even President Trump.
